There will always be a place in my heart for the IceCats, but I can understand if the new team doesn't go that way. New team, new marketing, and there's still a lot of businesses around here that cringe when they hear "IceCats" mentioned. I just hope to god that they find a way to work Scratch back into the picture. He was the best mascot in the AHL - period. Team names? I like Frank's suggestion of out first hockey team from the 50's - the Warriors. Rockets is OK - nothing great. I think it's going to be the "Sharks" though. if they were smart, they would do a name that team contest. It gets people talking in the community other just dumping a team name in our laps and saying "here"... |

Tornadoes did the name the team thing, and Tornadoes they said was one of their top picks, and every was trashing it, and then seemed to accept it.

Warriors will always be my number 1 choice but as far as relating it to the Sharks goes I would'nt mind the Worcester Jawz or the Worcester Attack. |

IMHO, we need a fresh start with a new name. This team needs every opportunity to build an image, create a new enthusiasm, gain business support and build a base of raving fans. We need to support the new organization and the NHL parent club. I think it would be helpful if the name carried over something of the Sharks brand.
Having a 'Scratch Night' or guest appearance by the best mascot in the history of the AHL sounds appealing. That's building on a valued asset and a character known and loved by every kid in the area.
555 has some good ideas. I like something with a bit of an edge. |

I would like to see the IceCats name and logo used with the San Jose Sharks' style jerseys, but I don't think they want to use the name IceCats. However, San Jose did resurrect the old Cleveland Barons name five years ago, so you never know. I think the team is going to be called the Sharks like Speed said. Perhaps Scratch can somehow morph from a cat into a shark. :-) |

I like the fish theme....Piranha or Barracuda (enter ice to Heart tune by same name) or Hammerheads (could picture a cool logo).
Actually doesnt really matter....just watching them enter the ice at DCU center will be great to see

As simple as it may be, the Worcester Sharks sounds nice and mean. They could use the same shark that San Jose uses, but instead of the upside down triangle (in back of shark) they could put a large "W" in back of the shark. I like San Jose colors too, reminds me of the icecat colors. |

I vote ICECATS, but as long as SCRATCH (definitely the best mascot) gets to come back, I'm ok!!! |

Interestering to note the San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate Cleveland Barons do not share any connection to the NHL Sharks other than the Jersey Design for the Barons. One would conclude the name is wide open to suggestions, but I really think something in the AHL name connection to the NHL team is better for our new local team.
As much as I loved Scratch and would love to see him at a new game this 2006 new year, and yes he was the coolest mastcot ever... but we need to move on with a new and better SlapShark Mascot . The teal team colors are the best in the AHL and interesting to note the new team has the same as the past Cats.
One part of the NHL name should be used and since San Jose is not specific to our area, we should at least use at a minimum the Shark name in at least part of the new name .
I suggested Ice-Sharks previousely which uses part of the old Ice-Cats name and the new Shark team name as the best of both worlds. Give me time and I will post some more suggestions as well as you.

I don't want the team name or logo to be sharks-related. The Cleveland Barons logo is way too obscure. I'm thinking there should be a contest with naming the new teaming and coming up with a logo. |

The Barrons Jersey is way to busy as Snagglepulse mentioned, take a look at it the Barons site, Dmband mentioned some connection to the fish like Piranah or Barracuda and is onto something...
Michael wants to rename the DCU to the Shark Tank and that's cool too, but the new DCU center will have to be bought out for the naming rights and will cost a few million, hopefully Michael has a lot of money to pay for the new name.
Everyone keeps talking about naming contest as it was really great for the past team and it should be done again, as I am sure there would be some really great suggestions if everyone gets involved. Hopefully it isn't to late as the paper reported Worcester Sharks today. |

Just another name idea is a New England Shark in our waters around here, it is the Mako Shark off our coast right here.
When in trouble and hooked and caught by fishermen, it is known to never give up, and its trademark is leaping through the air over 20 feet into the boat and attacking the fishermen.
Mako Shark's is just another idea for our new team.

I agree with tmoney. SJ's shark in front of a W.
I don't see why you couldn't give the DCU Center a nickname. As long as it's not posted on the building, you can call it anything you want. Heck, last season the people on WTAG referred to it as "the big ca-ching" or some other cash register noise sounding name. |

Can the old Cat Club (if they do this again) be named the "Fish Bowl"? :) |

KingCat was right, everyone was trashing Woosta's the new baseball teams name "Tornadoes" when they selected the name, after a while everone excepted it... The team went on to win it all in there first year here and was truly a great Woosta Success Story.
Michael wanted to rename the DCU Center "Shark Tank", and Kingcat suggested "Fish Bowl" for the old Cat Club, since Mike doesn't have the millions to buy out the DCU naming rights, the best we can do is go for changing the old Cats Club to a new name like The "Sharks Tank" or "Fish Bowl" |
