Sejna leads Rivermen over Moose
Peoria Rivermen
Canadian Press
10/7/2005 11:24:03 PM
PEORIA, Ill. (CP) - Troy Riddle's shorthanded goal at 15:19 of the third period was the difference as the Peoria Rivermen edged the Manitoba Moose 4-3 in American Hockey League play Friday night.
Peter Sejna scored a pair of goals and added an assist for Peoria (2-0-0), with Colin Hemingway adding the other goal for the Rivermen.
Jesse Schultz, Craig Darby and Nathan Smith replied in the second period for Manitoba (0-1-0). Josh Green contributed a pair of assists for the Moose, who trailed 1-0 after the first period and were tied 3-3 following the second.
Rivermen goalie Curtis Sanford blocked 29 shots to earn the victory, while Wade Flaherty made 33 saves in defeat.
Each team had 10 power-play opportunities, with Peoria converting three and Manitoba one. |

October 8, 2005 - On Saturday evening at Carver Arena, the Peoria Rivermen defeated the Manitoba Moose in a closely contested, 2-1 struggle. Charles Linglet and Mike Glumac (pictured) provided the offense, while Curtis Sanford stymied Manitoba with 25 saves on 26 shots.
The first period featured end-to-end action, and each team had several scoring opportunities, but the score remained 0-0 for much of the frame. Finally, at the 17:03 mark, the Rivermen took a 1-0 lead.
Peoria left winger Charles Linglet potted the goal. Defenseman Mike Mottau started the play by passing to winger Peter Sejna along the left wing boards above the face-off circle. Gliding along on his left skate, Sejna accepted the pass and calmly threaded the puck to Linglet all in one motion. The puck came to Linglet at the right post, and he banged it in behind Moose goaltender Wade Flaherty after going down on his left knee. | |

4,100 people on a Saturday night. Way to embrace a new team. |

Sounds like the attendance in Worcester last year. Peoria did have over 7,000 on Friday night. BTW- 4100 more on Saturday watching AHL hockey than in Worcester. Sorry, low blow but don't take your anger out on Peoria fans. |

I have a better idea...why not talk about Peoria on a forum?
There are several of them to choose from. |

Well, a better idea would be to talk about Peoria on a PEORIA forum...it loses some of the impact when you miss that second Peoria. |

Andrews was quoted in the Peoria Journal Star as saying that Worcester is still a very viable option and that there are some people looking at Worcester.
Although the beat writer (who is not well liked) has said in print that Worcester was left because it has a "lukewarm hockey market at best".
I still hope to see AHL hockey in Worcester next year b/c I think that we would have a very good rivalry! |

Let's just say the Bluies didn't know how to run an AHL team, which resulted in a "lukewarm market".
Of course they also didn't look for any local owners to sell the team to despite saying they tried. (And before anyone asks, there is proof of that). |

Hi Brooks283. It's nice to see you still around on this board.
Hey I don't mind the Rivermen talk here, I think it should be basically klike TV - if you don't like it change the channel. People should just bypass the thread that's all.
However, there a couple things I need to point out.
As 210 said, that beat writer is dead wrong on this one. I think he has some good info from time to time, but on this one - wrongo. The Blues did nothing to try and sell the team to local people here. We had a local ownership group in place on Decemeber 1st to buy a team and relocate it here. Nobody heard that they were for sale.
And for Mr. Andrews (our "friend") - here's a quote from the Peoria paper:
"(AHL president) David Andrews urged us to talk to St. Louis," Saurs said. "The Blues have been fantastic to us. We worked out a great deal."
So what he says I'm taking with a grain of salt. We need to act, I'm not waiting for Andrews to act. |

I've been grinding my teeth trying to stay away from this one in order to look forward, but as far as how bad the Blues ran things to put the team in debt:
From the T&G April 18th, 2005 (yes, I clipped all the articles) "Even in the final days of this season they paid for a hotel in Providence the night before..."
Putting the team in a hotel the night before to save a 40 mile bus ride the day of the game????
Sorry, had to do it. Lets move on. |
