Okay, looks like we all survived opening weekend. It hurt like hell, but I hope you made the most of it. We've heard one trip to Peoria, so how about the rest of you?
I ended up heading down to Hartford on Saturday. It was a good game, but the draw was the pre game event. The 'Pack retired Ken Gernander's number as he's moved behind the bench as assistant coach. They presented him with an oil painting collage of him in uniform, a college fund check for his kids, and a highlight film on the jumbotron set to Greenday's "Wake me up When September Ends." Finally his #12 was raised the rafters of the Hartford Civic Center.
The game wound up being pretty good with a speedy Manchester team jumping out to a 2-0 lead before Hartford tied it up and eventually hit the game winner with less than a minute left to win 4-3. Al Montoya looked good in net, but also showed that he has a few things to learn. I'm sure he'll live up to his draft status. As usual, Hartford has a big, physical team that can dress Murderers Rowe on any given night- Grenier, McIntyre, Worrell, and the suspended Dale Purinton are all on the roster.
That was it for me for the week. Next week I'll catch another local AHL game before taking a few weekends for college hockey. So how about the rest of you? How'd you spend opening weekend?
